Mediation Advocacy Training
As a leading organisation offering mediation training and mediation services, EMCC has served the community for a number of years, not least by providing top quality mediators. The success of the initial programme has prompted EMCC to establish the Mediation Practitioner Programme with the aim to increase the pool of highly proficient mediators in Singapore.
As far back as 1998, EMCC trained 12 mediators in a pilot programme. An intensive series of mediation workshops were combined with a practicum comprising case observations, co-mediations and extensive coaching by trained and practicing mediators. The graduates of this course now include Master Mediators with the Community Mediation Unit – active mediators at the Criminal Registry of the Subordinate Courts, the Family Court, the Maintenance of Parents’ Tribunal and the Consumers’ Association of Singapore. A few of the graduates of the original programme now play key roles as coaches and trainers of EMCC’s mediation training.
EMCC has offered mediation training programmes to many organisations, including Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, the Ministry of Education, the Insolvency and Public Trustee’s Office, churches and other faith organisations.
EMCC Mediators
EMCC-trained mediators have a strong reputation. As the first and only organisation to be appointed by the Subordinate Courts to perform mediations in the Family Court in the late 1990s, EMCC mediators have since become some of the forerunners in community mediation. Three of EMCC’s top mediators are Master Mediators with the Community Mediation Centre and they are also the appointed mediators for the Tribunal for the Maintenance of Parents.
